Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) said two of its vessels were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday evening, according to UAE state news agency WAM. The company reported no injuries and said the situation had been brought under control, while the UAE condemned Iran over the incident. The strait has become a central flashpoint in the ongoing conflict. US President Donald Trump said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz US "territory" and pledged to hit Iran hard economically, framing control of the waterway as necessary while ceasefire negotiations with Tehran remain stalled over that very issue. Trump urged Americans to accept slightly higher petrol prices as the price of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and dismissed concerns about conditions aboard a US aircraft carrier deployed to the region. The declaration, whose legal basis is unclear, would mark an unusual assertion of US authority over an international strait.
