The Get Lost project, which assists Russians seeking to avoid military service, said it received 14 complaints between August 10 and 18 from men who claimed they were detained and forced to sign contracts with Russia's Defense Ministry, with complaints originating from six regions. Another anti-war group, Idite Lesom, separately reported a growing number of similar complaints from individuals who said they were forcibly detained and coerced into signing Defense Ministry contracts. The overlapping reports from two independent organizations point to a broader pattern of coercive recruitment tactics being used across multiple Russian regions as the Kremlin seeks to sustain troop numbers for the war in Ukraine.
